Vanessa Fowler qualified from the University of london with a B.Ed in Art in 1976 and has taught ceramics ever since. She moved to Hastings in 1987 and has been a tutor at Hastings College in the ceramics department for the last 22 years. Her work is well known in the South East. 3 years ago she opened a shop/studio/teaching space in Marine Court, St. Leonards.
"It has been my life and I'm very lucky to have been involved in a subject I love. At present, besides working with groups of student of all levels including adults with learning difficulities, I am busy experimenting with new glazes as all the glazes that I have loved have been removed from the market. However this will be overcome. I have worked with Raku and earthenware most of my time. Colour is something which will tell me apart from other potters. Form is crucial. Its a massive journey. Mistakes and discoveries will be made. And eventually something really brilliant will happen yet again."
